May 26 – Latest updates on the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy


Today, May 26, at Civil Protection Department Headquarters, the Operational Committee kept working to ensure the coordination of all operations by the components and operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection Service.

As per health monitoring activities related to the spread of Coronavirus across national territory, at present 52,942 people have tested positive. To date, the total number of assessed cases in Italy is 230,555, with an increase of 397 new cases compared to yesterday. 32,955 died (78 in the past 24 hours). 144,658 patients have recovered, 2,677 more than yesterday. 521 Coronavirus patients are hospitalized in intensive care, 20 fewer than yesterday.

In detail, the number of infected people amounts to 24.477 in Lombardy, 6.941 in Piedmont, 4.146 in Emilia-Romagna, 2.431 in Veneto, 1.522 in Tuscany, 1.438 in Liguria, 3.538 in Lazio, 1.575 in the Marche, 1.184 in Campania, 1.539 in Puglia, 513 in the autonomous province of Trento, 1.430 in Sicily, 375 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 909 in Abruzzo, 179 in the autonomous province of Bolzano, 42 in Umbria, 224 in Sardinia, 31 in the Aosta Valley, 238 in Calabria, 174 in Molise and 36 in Basilicata. 

In application of the measures to contain the contagion, yesterday, May 25, the police checked 120,210 people. Those who have been reported after police checks were 406, 14 those reported for false attestation or declaration, 2 complaints for violation of the obligation to leave the home for quarantine.

Police controlled 36,936 businesses: 57 operators were reported and 11 businesses were closed.
