May 21 – Latest updates on the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy


Today, May 21, at Civil Protection Department Headquarters, the Operational Committee kept working to ensure the coordination of all operations by the components and operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection Service.

As per health monitoring activities related to the spread of Coronavirus across national territory, at present 60,960 people have tested positive. To date, the total number of assessed cases in Italy is 228,006, with an increase of 642 new cases compared to yesterday. 32,486 died (156 in the past 24 hours). 134,560 patients have recovered, 2,278 more than yesterday. 640 Coronavirus patients are hospitalized in intensive care, 36 fewer than yesterday.

In detail, the number of infected people amounts to 26.715 in Lombardy, 8.710 in Piedmont, 4.926 in Emilia-Romagna, 3.286 in Veneto, 1.877 in Tuscany, 2.075 in Liguria, 3.637 in Lazio, 1.832 in the Marche, 1.373 in Campania, 1.839 in Puglia, 66 in the autonomous province of Trento, 1.522 in Sicily, 578 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 1.272 in Abruzzo, 250 in the autonomous province of Bolzano, 61 in Umbria, 318 in Sardinia, 43 in the Aosta Valley, 326 in Calabria, 194 in Molise and 60 in Basilicata.

In application of the measures to contain the contagion, yesterday, May 20, the police checked 125,582 people. Those who have been reported after police checks were 460, 3 those reported pursuant to article 4, d.l. 25.03.2020 n. 19, 3 complaints pursuant to article 495 – 496 PC.

Police controlled 56,207 businesses: 25 operators were reported and 3 businesses were closed.
