May 20 – Latest updates on the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy


Today, May 20, at Civil Protection Department Headquarters, the Operational Committee kept working to ensure the coordination of all operations by the components and operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection Service.

As per health monitoring activities related to the spread of Coronavirus across national territory, at present 62,752 people have tested positive. To date, the total number of assessed cases in Italy is 227,364, with an increase of 665 new cases compared to yesterday. 32,330 died (161 in the past 24 hours). 132,282 patients have recovered, 2,881 more than yesterday. 676 Coronavirus patients are hospitalized in intensive care, 40 fewer than yesterday.

In detail, the number of infected people amounts to 26.671 in Lombardy, 9.151 in Piedmont, 5.098 in Emilia-Romagna, 3.532 in Veneto, 2.117 in Tuscany, 2.178 in Liguria, 3.786 in Lazio, 1.974 in the Marche, 1.442 in Campania, 1.902 in Puglia, 126 in the autonomous province of Trento, 1.523 in Sicily, 596 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 1.317 in Abruzzo, 272 in the autonomous province of Bolzano, 66 in Umbria, 331 in Sardinia, 46 in the Aosta Valley, 353 in Calabria, 198 in Molise and 73 in Basilicata.

In application of the measures to contain the contagion, yesterday, May 19, the police checked 127,392 people. Those who have been reported after police checks were 409, 4 those reported pursuant to article 4, d.l. 25.03.2020 n. 19, 3 complaints pursuant to article 495 – 496 PC.

Police controlled 54,223 businesses: 41 operators were reported and 10 businesses were closed.
