May 4 – Latest updates on the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy


Today, May 4, at Civil Protection Department Headquarters, the Operational Committee kept working to ensure the coordination of all operations by the components and operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection Service.

As per health monitoring activities related to the spread of Coronavirus across national territory, at present 99,980 people have tested positive. To date, the total number of assessed cases in Italy is 211,938, with an increase of 1,221 new cases compared to yesterday. 29,079 died (195 in the past 24 hours). 82,879 patients have recovered, 1,225 more than yesterday. 1,479 Coronavirus patients are hospitalized in intensive care, 22 fewer than yesterday.

In detail, the number of infected people amounts to 37.307 in Lombardy, 15.562 in Piedmont, 8.984 in Emilia-Romagna, 7.234 in Veneto, 5.279 in Tuscany, 3.508 in Liguria, 4.385 in Lazio, 3.206 in the Marche, 2.711 in Campania, 1.165 in the autonomous province of Trento, 2.945 in Puglia,  2.202 in Sicily, 1.050 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 1.837 in Abruzzo, 636 in the autonomous province of Bolzano, 181 in Umbria, 653 in Sardinia, 110 in Valle d’Aosta, 647 in Calabria, 173 in Basilicata and 178 in Molise.

In application of the measures to contain the contagion, yesterday, May 3, the police checked 221,409 people. Those who have been reported after police checks were 5,325, 31 those reported pursuant to article 4, d.l. 25.03.2020 n. 19, 2 complaints pursuant to article 495 – 496 PC.

Police controlled 77,925 businesses: 89 operators were reported and 27 businesses were closed.

Thus, they rise to 12,360,197 people and 4,798,015 businesses checked by the police March 11 to May 3.
