May 3 – Latest updates on the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy


Today, May 3, at Civil Protection Department Headquarters, the Operational Committee kept working to ensure the coordination of all operations by the components and operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection Service.

As per health monitoring activities related to the spread of Coronavirus across national territory, at present 100,179 people have tested positive. To date, the total number of assessed cases in Italy is 210,717, with an increase of 1,389 new cases compared to yesterday. 28,884 died (174 in the past 24 hours). 81,654 patients have recovered, 1,740 more than yesterday. 1,501 Coronavirus patients are hospitalized in intensive care, 38 fewer than yesterday.

In detail, the number of infected people amounts to 36.926 in Lombardy, 15.638 in Piedmont, 9.045 in Emilia-Romagna, 7.299 in Veneto, 5.328 in Tuscany, 3.551 in Liguria, 4.385 in the Lazio, 3.198 in the Marche, 2.726 in Campania, 1.247 in the autonomous province of Trento, 2.955 in Puglia,  2.203 in Sicily, 1.087 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 1.868 in Abruzzo, 665 in the autonomous province of Bolzano, 183 in Umbria, 689 in Sardinia, 109 in Valle d’Aosta, 702 in Calabria, 194 in Basilicata and 181 in Molise.

In application of the measures to contain the contagion, yesterday, May 2, the police checked 243,224 people. Those who have been reported after police checks were 5,402, 49 those reported pursuant to article 4, d.l. 25.03.2020 n. 19, 18 complaints pursuant to article 495 – 496 PC.

Police controlled 89,773 businesses: 119 operators were reported and 36 businesses were closed.

Thus, they rise to 12,138,788 people and 4,720,090 businesses checked by the police March 11 to May 2.
