May 2 – Latest updates on the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy


Today, May 2, at Civil Protection Department Headquarters, the Operational Committee kept working to ensure the coordination of all operations by the components and operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection Service.

As per health monitoring activities related to the spread of Coronavirus across national territory, at present 100,704 people have tested positive. To date, the total number of assessed cases in Italy is 209,328, with an increase of 1,900 new cases compared to yesterday. 28,710 died (474 in the past 24 hours). 79,914 patients have recovered, 1,665 more than yesterday. 1,539 Coronavirus patients are hospitalized in intensive care, 39 fewer than yesterday.

In detail, the number of infected people amounts to 36.667 in Lombardy, 15.719 in Piedmont, 9.323 in Emilia-Romagna, 7.431 in Veneto, 5.365 in Tuscany, 3.598 in Liguria, 4.452 in Lazio, 3.205 in the Marche, 2.721 in Campania, 1.282 in the autonomous province of Trento, 2.954 in Puglia,  2.186 in Sicily, 1.109 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 1.879 in Abruzzo, 703 in the autonomous province of Bolzano, 196 in Umbria, 730 in Sardinia, 98 in Valle d’Aosta, 713 in Calabria, 191 in Basilicata and 182 in Molise.

In application of the measures to contain the contagion, yesterday, May 1, the police checked 241,786 people. Those who have been reported after police checks were 7,062, 73 those reported pursuant to article 4, d.l. 25.03.2020 n. 19, 5 complaints pursuant to article 495 – 496 PC.

Police controlled 81,089 businesses: 195 operators were reported and 45 businesses were closed.

Thus, they rise to 11,895,564 people and 4,630,317 businesses checked by the police March 11 to May 1.
