German counter-terror prosecutors said Thursday they had taken over the investigation into two linked shootings that left at least nine dead in the central city of Hanau, near the financial capital of Frankfurt.
“Federal prosecutors have taken over because of the particular importance of the case,” a spokesman said, adding that “there are signs of a xenophobic motive” for the killings.
A man suspected of fatally shooting nine people in the German city of Hanau was found dead at his home early Thursday, hours after the attacks in and outside two hookah lounges, police said.
Officers also found another body at the same address, police said. arabnews
