Press release issued by Souad Sbai, president of “Centro Studi Averroè”:
15 years have passed but the wound is still an open wound.
In Nassirya, Iraq, a tank truck loaded with explosives driven by two terrorists exploded in front of the “Maestrale” military base. The attack caused the death of 28 Italians. The Italian military “Antigua Babilonia” was not in Iraq to kill but to carry out peacekeeping actions, that is, to rebuild the country, maintain public order and, therefore, help the population.
It is necessary to remember the name of the carabiniere Andrea Filippa. Andrea guarded the entrance to the military base when he managed to kill the two terrorists; a brave gesture that prevented the truck from exploding inside the base, avoiding a worse massacre.
Many years have passed but terrorism is not dead and it is demonstrated by the recent events that took place in Australia.
My thoughts go to the families of the victims, to the families of the people killed in Nassirya by the blind murderous fury of a thousand-headed snake.
